Drip Campaign

What is a Drip Campaign?

A drip campaign delivers a pre-written set of emails to prospects or customers over time. Like water dripping from a faucet, messages are released gradually to nurture relationships and move recipients toward conversion.

Common Drip Campaigns

Welcome Series: Introduce new subscribers to your brand
Lead Nurture: Educate prospects about your solution
Trial Conversion: Guide trial users to paid plans
Onboarding: Help new customers get started
Re-engagement: Win back inactive contacts
Upsell/Cross-sell: Promote additional products

Drip Campaign Structure

Typical drip campaigns include:

  1. Trigger: Event that starts the sequence
  2. Timing: Intervals between emails (Day 1, 3, 7, 14…)
  3. Content: Progressive value delivery
  4. Goal: Desired outcome (meeting booked, purchase, etc.)
  5. Exit Criteria: When recipient leaves sequence

Creating Effective Drip Campaigns

Define clear goals and audience, map content to buyer journey stages, provide value in every email, use progressive profiling to learn more, include clear calls-to-action, test subject lines and send times, monitor metrics and optimize, and allow easy unsubscribe.

Drip Campaign Metrics

Track open rates, click-through rates, conversion rates, unsubscribe rates, time to conversion, and revenue generated per sequence.

Best Practices

Don’t overwhelm with frequency, personalize beyond first name, segment for relevance, provide escape routes for ready buyers, and use behavior to trigger next steps (if they click, send different email than if they don’t).
